Role summary

Manages, directs, or supervises staff and establishes and manages a project management structure and process for cross-functional engineering projects, in order to cost effectively meet short- or long-term engineering and operational objectives. Participates in corporate strategic and policy development, and develops engineering policies, procedures, methods, and budgets. Evaluates the resources needed to accomplish the objectives within the agreed timeframe and establishes staffing plans and coordination needs, using a combination of direct or indirect internal and/or contract expertise. Utilizes Project Management methodologies to direct project progress and integration, incorporate and track changes, and optimize on resource deployment to ensure plans and strategies are achieved within plan, on time and within budget. Requires strong leadership, presentation, and negotiation skills to build commitment, negotiate compromises, and resolve conflicts, as needed. Conducts operational and leadership level meetings throughout the course of the project(s) to advise and consult or to provide technical feedback to key high level stakeholders and team members. May have responsibility to deliver on multiple simultaneous projects, and using best practices, sets technical priorities. Directs strategies and activities, defines charter, and determines engineering needs, resources, milestones, and members, based on a thorough understanding of multiple programs, systems, and functional area integration and design needs. Results have critical short- or long-term business impact. Measures and reports on progress, interim and final targets, sets or revises goals, and provides Executive counsel and reporting. Manages or oversees communications, documentation, and resources to bring the project to completion both on time and within budget and approves exceptions to policy. Typically requires a degree in Engineering and related experience including prior project management experience.
