Senior Manager Individual Life Underwriting

Role summary

Manages, directs, or supervises staff and the implementation of policies and processes to effectively manage individual life underwriting for an assigned area, while ensuring compliance with guidelines and regulations. Manages the individual life underwriting process, including underwriting decisions on individual life cases. Leverages underwriting expertise to determine insurability and insurance premium classifications, based on company guidelines. Manages relationships with other internal departments to facilitate processing of applications, as well as manage outside agency relationships, ensuring high customer satisfaction. May also manage the appeals process, including requesting additional information & evidence, making appeals decisions and explaining rating decisions. Acts as a role model in providing technical underwriting expertise, guidance and customer service to agents and underwriting staff. Proactively contributes to the development and improvement of the development of technical underwriting standards. Serves as a point of escalation on difficult underwriting decisions. Manages and assigns objectives to subordinate life underwriters, supervisors and assistants. Requires in-depth understanding of contemporary underwriting concepts and practices, and the associated laws and regulations governing these activities. EKG Certification may be preferred but not required. Typically requires individual life underwriting experience.
