Role summary
Manages, directs, or supervises staff and the implementation of policies and processes to effectively identify, research and manage actuarial issues and concepts. Manages actuarial issues for individual life, group life, STD, LTD, and special risk policies. Manages the actuarial process, including establishing rates, rate structures, rating algorithms, establishing valuation assumptions, and developing performance management measures, while ensuring compliance with GAAP and Statutory and Tax Reporting guidelines and regulations. Supports annual/quarterly financial reporting functions. Analyzes claims data to identify trends. Requires negotiation skills as well as the ability to interpret financial data to drive business decisions. May work in lines such as individual life, group life, STD, LTD, and special risk policies. Typically requires a degree in mathematics, actuarial science, business, or science, an FSA designation and membership in the Society of Actuaries.
