Role summary
Guided by strategy and policies, responsible for analyzing, reviewing and making underwriting decisions on personal lines of property casualty insurance (fire, flood, earthquake, home, boiler, auto liability, and marine) for new and existing clients on behalf of agents and carriers. Uses advanced computer models and software to analyze, determine and rate applicant risk, and approve, modify or deny applications based on information such as financial statements, motor vehicle reports, tax returns, credit history, medical history, and other relevant information. Leverages underwriting expertise to determine insurability and insurance premium classifications, based on company guidelines. Collaborates with other internal departments to facilitate processing of applications, as well as manage outside agency relationships, ensuring high customer satisfaction. May also manage the appeal process with agencies, including requesting additional information & evidence, making appeal decisions and explaining rating decisions. Proactively contributes to the development and improvement of technical underwriting standards.
