Role summary

Manages, directs, or supervises staff and the development and implementation of the employee relations function. Implements employee relations strategies and policies which promote a positive, productive, diverse and supportive working environment and culture within the organization. Depending on scale, may support a portion of the organization or a business group. Serves as an advisor to management on employee relations issues. Ensures that first line management is aware of the employee relations implications of reorganizations, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and reductions in force. Within its assigned area responsible for clarifying and implementing policies governing such issues as: compliance with all national legislative and regulatory requirements relative to employment (Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, etc.) workplace rules and conduct, employee communications, equitable and consistent treatment of all employees, effective complaint investigation and problem resolution, performance management issues, fair employment practices, talent recruitment processes, development, and retention. Ensures that all policies and practices are compliant with all applicable employment and other laws and regulations governing employer / employee relationships, for the population supported. May develop responses to Agency Audits and related issues. Implements policies and practices that ensure that adequate and accurate records are maintained relative to an employee’s ongoing behavior, experience and relationship with the organization. Maintains an excellent working relationship with peer specialists in the legal and Human Resource function and promotes the use of such specialized services by subordinate professionals in the employee relations sub-function.
