Role summary

Provides executive leadership for Government Relations Function. Function head responsible for developing and implementing the overall government relations strategy for the organization to support its broad goals and objectives. Ensures that the interests of the organization at the Federal, State or international levels to shape emerging issues and to enable it to operate in its various markets without undue legislation, regulation, or taxation restriction. Responsible for organizing and staffing the government relations department and for providing leadership and direction on strategic, tactical and operational issues on an ongoing basis. (Note: This is the most senior executive having Government Relations as their sole area of focus and expertise). Responsible for organizing and staffing the government relations department and for providing leadership and direction on strategic, tactical and operational issues on an ongoing basis. Provides counsel and coaching to senior executives relative to issues impacting the business and on their own public profile and their contact with the media in various forums. Typically based at Headquarters and, depending on the organization’s structure, may report to the Chief Executive Officer or to a senior executive position such as the Top Legal & Government Relations Executive. Requires an executive who is thoroughly grounded in the company business and who has demonstrated government relations expertise gained over work experience in the lobbying or corporate arenas.
