Role summary

Responsible for defining and articulating the organization's strategies for labor relations issues for employee populations organized by trade union organizations. In consultation with senior management, prepares strategies, tactics and negotiation postures in advance of union management contract negotiations, with a view to achieving the organization's objectives, while maintaining harmonious labor relations. Conducts senior level negotiations with union leadership, governmental organizations (e.g., National Labor Relations Board) on collective bargaining agreements and develops contingency plans in case negotiations fail and a strike results. Directs the conduct of research and analyzes of labor issues to ensure that the issues, negotiation postures and fallback positions are well researched and understood. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations relative to union management labor relations and contracts. Represents a senior point of decision on the interpretation of contracts and the application of policies. May be qualified as a lawyer.
