Role summary
Responsible for the development and production of the company’s strategic plan to support the attainment of the organization’s overall mission. Identifies and evaluates longer term opportunities that provide competitive advantage for the company’s products and services. Interprets research and develops novel proposals to enable the company to take full advantage of emerging trends which contribute to revenue, profit and market growth. Works closely with business unit heads and operational and finance executives in shaping the direction of the strategic plan. Specific responsibilities may include identification of opportunities, market segmentation, business plan development, and performance analysis and evaluation. Responsible for identifying the resources necessary to attain the stretch goals in the plan and for determining how best to acquire them, through organic growth or through acquisition of assets and capabilities externally, through mergers, acquisitions or partnerships. May also recommend the divestiture of non-core or unprofitable businesses or product lines. Must have an in depth understanding of the company’s various businesses and business processes and the competitive landscape and must articulate complex and challenging business issues to executive management, and ultimately the Board of Directors. Typically requires an individual with a master’s degree in finance or an MBA, and may have a background in management consulting, econometrics, or investment banking.
