Role summary

Develops and implements enterprise-wide strategies and policies on privacy and data protection relative to customer, client, or employee data both in electronic and non-electronic formats. Through these strategies and policies, seeks to mitigate the risks and business impact of non-compliance both with internal policies and external privacy and data protection laws. May serve as an in-house privacy advocate and liaises closely with business and functional leaders in gathering input and perspectives on privacy and data protection issues and on the ongoing administration and evaluation of programs. In particular, works with the Chief Information Officer and Chief Security Office on these programs and policies. Ensures the adoption of best practices and optimal performance metrics in relation to privacy and data protection for the organization. Ensures that ongoing audits are conducted to assess vulnerabilities, risks, and compliance exposure relative to privacy and data protection. Ensures that plans are developed and put in place to manage large scale data security incidences or privacy breaches and to deal with consequent communication, remediation and legal challenges. Supports ongoing, organization-wide, internal communication programs relative to the importance of conformance with privacy and data protection policies at all organizational levels. Also ensures that structures and capabilities are put in place to monitor emerging legislative and regulatory developments in relation to privacy and data protection to ensure that the organization can plan appropriately. Requires a comprehensive understanding of the legislative, regulatory and technological environments impacting privacy and data protection issues.
