Role summary
Manages, directs, or supervises staff and the environmental, industrial, health, and safety function. Implements strategic and operational directives to develop, plan, and control policies and prevention/corrective programs to ensure compliance. Develops specialized methods, techniques, programs, policies, and procedures including but are not limited to ergonomics, illness and injury prevention, chemical or biological and material processing or handling, manufacture engineering, and facility safety. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and may act as point of contact for emergency personnel. Interfaces with regulatory agencies to respond to prevention, management, or correction needs and keeps abreast of changes/requirements, ensuring proper and timely training, response, and internal communications. May manage Worker's Compensation and OSHA program administration. Reviews incident reports to evaluate the scope of risks and exposure and ensures appropriate and timely health and safety corrective actions are taken along with appropriate documentation and records management. Manages the implementation of engineering practices related to environmental impact and quality, natural resource recycle and recovery, and/or public health, and develops environmental systems, applications, and processes. Conducts or oversees investigations, prepares remediation work plans, develops reports and recommendations. Oversees standards, analyses, tests, experiments and evaluates investigation needs, reporting on environmental findings and consequences. May oversee proper handling of hazardous and/or radioactive waste disposal, and monitors waste handling in compliance with internal /external standards and regulations. Manages the development and implementation of widespread training programs in areas such as compliance, laboratory or plant/facility management, hazardous and non-hazardous material handling, emergency response, industrial safety and hygiene, and personal safety.
