Role summary
Manages, directs, or supervises staff and the development and implementation of the integrated Supply Chain and Logistics (SCL) function. This includes the development and implementation of strategic plans, policies, procedures, and compliance activities in a corporate or regional/satellite location. Normally supervises staff in both areas of SCL. Based on analytics and tracking, develops metrics, methods, processes, or sources to ensure the acquisition, delivery, coordination, best price, timely delivery, and quality of materials. May participate in vendor negotiations or contract management and coordinates and resolves issues regarding new or existing products. Coordinates new product introductions and product phase-out in conjunction with Sales, Marketing, Engineering/Product Development, Production, and Suppliers. Utilizes integrated software systems and continuous improvement or strategic planning techniques such as Just-in-time, Lean, Kanban, Activity-Based Management (ABM), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). Develops status and advisory reports on such issues as sales forecasting, operations planning, sourcing, vendor management, procurement, materials handling, inventory management, production planning, warehousing and related logistics, and transport and distribution. Manages the maintenance and implementation of specialized systems technology to control SCL activities and processes, to effectively meet cost saving objectives. May participate in technology selection or system customization.
