Role summary
Manages, directs, or supervises staff performing physical and administrative tasks involved in materials handling areas such as opening containers, moving materials within a plant, loading, unloading and storing materials, parts, supplies, and equipment, and documenting and organizing materials. Also manages the operation of such equipment as forklifts or conveyors for shipping, receiving, material movement, and unpacking/packing. Plans, coordinates and manages shipping/receiving, storage, kitting or pick/pack operations to achieve inventory planning and control objectives. Schedules material handling activities by reviewing requests and shipping or receiving tickets. Examines stock and inventory as necessary and supervises a variety of processes to ensure goods received are checked against Purchase Orders or Invoices, and are handled and distributed properly, so staff complies with policies and procedures, particularly as related to safe handling techniques or rejections of unsatisfactory items and returns. Reviews status and merchandise reports and records, postal costs, and methods to ensure compliance with standards, operational plans, and regulations.
