Role summary
Manages, directs, or supervises staff and the Environmental Management and Control function and implements short-and long-term Environmental management strategies. Oversees technical needs and sets work priorities to ensure the company is a good corporate citizen from an environmental perspective. Develops and coordinates environmental policies, methods, and programs for clean water, air, waste, and management of pollution, as well as managing the proportion of recycled materials used in the company’s products and services to increase efficiency and reduce costs within compliance and regulatory guidelines. Works with adjacent functions, regulatory, and legal executives to plan and manage various environmental initiatives. May develop, coordinate, or implement the company’s carbon credits program. Develops and maintains strong and proactive relations with environmental regulatory agencies (such as the EPA) at the State and/or Federal level, with a view to building and enhancing the relationship between regulators and the company. Manages prompt response to government agency investigations, inquiries, or requests, or ensures timely resolution of problems. Responsible for technical excellence through operational and documentation management to ensure compliance and completeness/accuracy. Builds internal and external relationships within or outside the company, industry, and its stakeholders to source experts, determine needs/resources, or determine the structure, systems, and processes of the environmental regulatory agencies and their compliance requirements. May represent the organization to proactively negotiate or communicate the company’s perspective on environmental or technical needs, goals, status, or issues to stakeholders. This may include environmental agency representatives, customers, shareholders, vendors, organized interest groups, and others. Typically requires a degree in such areas as Environmental Engineering or Law, plus related company, industry, and/or governmental agency and regulatory experience.
