Role summary
Function head responsible for developing and implementing the overall government relations and corporate communications strategy for the organization to support its broad goals and objectives. Ensures that public relations efforts and campaigns are leveraged effectively with corporate marketing efforts to secure a positive and favorable image of the company with its various publics, customers, shareholders, employees, the community at large, and government agencies and regulators. Promotes and advances the interests of the organization at the Federal, State or international levels to shape emerging issues and to enable it to operate in its various markets without undue legislation, regulation, or taxation restriction. Responsible for organizing and staffing the departments and for providing leadership and direction on strategic, tactical, and operational issues on an ongoing basis. Provides counsel and coaching to senior executives relative to issues impacting the business and on their own public profile and their contact with the media in various forums. May serve as the primary company spokesperson in times of crisis and may lead the crisis management process. Typically based at Headquarters and, depending on the organization’s structure, may report to the Chief Executive Officer or to a senior executive position. Requires an executive who is thoroughly grounded in the company business and who has demonstrated communications expertise and experience in the agency or corporate arenas. This is a single incumbent position.
