Role summary
Responsible for providing strategic leadership in migrating innovative product design concepts into finished high quality commercialized goods that provide the company with a competitive advantage in its product portfolio in order to help achieve revenue and profit objectives. Evaluates and addresses various types of product development risks including: production, product integrity, and regulatory risks. Directs the development process, including planning, costing, engineering, prototyping, testing, and commercialization. Has ultimate responsibility to ensure that a pipeline of innovative products is configured and delivered on time, meets performance standards, and at an appropriate cost basis. Selects, engages and oversees third party manufacturers (where applicable), specialized vendors and licensors and manages the relationship with them at the executive level. Directs the review of current processes, technical processes, and directs process improvements, where necessary. Requires knowledge of project management, planning, costing, and development processes. Typically requires a degree in mechanical or industrial engineering and product development experience.
