Role summary
Manages, directs, or supervises staff and implementing the IT strategy governing the planning, design, management, and maintenance of the organization’s voice, video, and data communications infrastructure. Supports the PBX infrastructure, Voice over IP, IVR, voicemail services, wireless devices, call routing technologies, Audio/Video/Web conferencing, and related telephony services. The infrastructure may include multiple technologies from multiple vendors. Manages the design and deployment of the telephony infrastructure based on current and anticipated business needs. Manages telecommunications professionals and others involved in the optimization of voice switches and related systems and applications, management of wireless devices and infrastructure, trouble ticket management and administration, and preventative maintenance initiatives. Maintains a close working relationship with critical telecommunications carriers and vendors to understand their current and emerging technologies and to negotiate contracts and services levels. Facilitates and promotes the use of Audio / Video / Web conferencing from both a traffic and cost management perspective. Ensures that processes are in place to adequately document the infrastructure, changes and systems upgrades, and inventory management of equipment and other assets. Provides leadership and direction to subordinate engineers, and other telecommunications professionals. Typically requires IT voice and telephony network design, management, and administration experience in a large complex organization.
