Role summary
Manages, directs, or supervises staff and the implementation of the collections policies and processes of the corporation to recover delinquent obligations by customers. Ensures that, at a tactical and operational level, all collections policies and processes are fully compliant with applicable laws and regulations in relation to the fair treatment of customers with delinquent balances. Manages the collections processes including the final determination of the appropriate collections strategy for the overdue accounts, the allocation of internal or external resources to recover those outstanding amounts, and any settlement proposals involving payoff schedules or balance reductions. Has regular interaction with the credit function and other units in the finance function as well as sales and other functional areas on ways to reduce future delinquencies. May evaluate and negotiate terms with outside collections agencies based on volume, need, and degree of difficulty. Serves as a point of escalation on difficult collections decisions. Manages and assigns objectives to subordinate Supervisors and clerical staff performing collections activities. Requires an in-depth understanding of contemporary collection concepts and practices, and the associated laws and regulations governing these activities.
