Role summary
Serves as an important intermediary between assigned business clients and the procurement function, requiring a full working knowledge of both environments. Plans supply inventory and coordinates the strategic procurement of materials, goods, and services to achieve, improve or exceed targeted levels to manage supply with demand within the Domestic or Global Supply Chain. May work in multiple locations and/or commodity areas. Analyzes requisitions, solicits specifications, and plans for production or special needs, such as sales promotions or new product launches. Researches, identifies, and develops relationships with key domestic and/or global suppliers and vendors to support the procurement of raw or finished materials, components, equipment, or services. Develops new sources when vendors/suppliers are no longer available or competitive, and implements strategic cost saving initiatives, such as the Request for Quote (RFQ) process, including vendor and supplier evaluations and negotiations. Researches and identifies suppliers who conform to standards of price, quality, timing, and reliability to guarantee adequate supply levels within authorized policy and cost levels. Using specialized systems skill and knowledge, develops various analytical reports. Monitors costs, schedules, and contract or subcontract terms to negotiate highest quality at best value. Evaluates and recommends such cost saving proposals as make-versus-buy, or alternative sourcing channels. May monitor and confirm shipping schedules, or track PO’s to ensure availability, quality, and on-time delivery. Researches and resolve issues, problems, or failures. Proactively reports availability issues and troubleshoots problems to avoid supply chain interruptions or cost spikes. Ensures the maintenance and integrity of procurement data in the ERP system, and develops and manages material /source lists, prices, and tables. Coordinates related functions/procurement support, assesses market trends, determines short- and long-term needs, or addresses such issues as material scarcity, price changes, or vendor or subcontractor reliability.
