Role summary
Supports the smooth operation of the Data Center by achieving assigned production objectives at the agreed service levels. Responsible for operating various configurations of computers that can consist of mainframe, midrange, server and peripheral equipment, such as printers and drive equipment. Monitors operations and jobs in process and ensures that the appropriate steps and console interventions are taken to ensure the processing works smoothly. This may include loading paper, or switching peripherals at certain points, loading routines via the console and other steps. May perform backups as an ongoing part of the role. Ensures that protocols are followed in the event of computer operation problems and escalates issues where appropriate. May assist in developers in testing new systems prior to full implementation.
