Role summary
Responsible for providing advice to managers and professionals on all aspects of intellectual property within assigned area(s). May involve direct interactions with engineers, scientists, and R&D professionals on patent protection, the identification of new inventions or technologies, risk mitigation, registrations, and a wide range of related matters. Ensures that such individuals are aware of the commercial and financial importance of intellectual property considerations as they relate to their work. May be involved with outside counsel in the protection of intellectual property rights. May be involved in the identification of patentable inventions, the drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications, and the management and administration of an active caseload. Within assigned area(s) of responsibility, reviews and analyzes license, contract, and other agreements from an intellectual property perspective. Requires a degree in engineering or science, a patent attorney Juris Doctor, and experience protecting and enforcing intellectual property rights. Requires significant attention to detail, often on highly technical subject matter. Registration to practice before the US Patent & Trademark Office is also typically required.
