Expert Package Engineer

Role summary

Develops new package containers or package designs and alternatives to ensure that final product packaging meets functional specification needs relative to structural integrity, product protection and security, compliance of materials with health, safety, and transportation requirements, space, and ease and effectiveness of manufacture. Applies specialized package engineering theory, methods and techniques and works on design projects or subsets of larger, more complex projects. Applies policies, procedures, regulations, standards and methods to develop packaging for attractive and safe shipping of products under varying conditions of climate, environment, and different modes of transportation. Works with different methods and materials such as lubricants or protective materials, and troubleshoots problems or issues as assigned. May be responsible for documentation management, manufacturing workflow coordination, or for coordinating logistics at other contract packaging and labeling sites. May collaborate with other functions and outside vendors/agencies to implement and engineer alternate design elements/structures into testable prototypes. Develops cost models, performs quality control, and finished or component packaging for products. Skills involve balancing tradeoffs between material and production cost, quality, visual appeal, safety, and marketing. May also be responsible for testing or reviewing quality control results to ensure industry quality standards for package designs meets or exceeds standards. Typically requires a degree in industrial design or Package engineering. Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) knowledge may also be required.
