Role summary
Responsible for collections activities and strategies for the organization’s delinquent accounts to promote debt recovery. Maintains positive relations with customers to promote timely collections and payment. Responds to customer inquiries about invoices, discrepancies, and outstanding balances. Looks up information to assess correct information and resolves disputes or discrepancies. Researches account and collection history, reviewing system notes and payment trends and problems to develop a workable collection approach. Monitors outstanding balances and prior debt collection efforts. Analyzes data related to credit and collections to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement. Contacts other departments such as Sales or Customer Service to develop integrated collection solutions. Reviews and applies applicable laws and regulations related to collections and debt recovery. While ensuring compliance with laws and operational policies, procedures, and assigned authorization levels, negotiates with customers to develop payment or settlement plans. Refers and escalates problems as needed ensuring up-to-date documentation. Develops financial reports for management information and review. Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and specialized collections experience.
