Role summary
Manages, directs, or supervises staff and the development of the Vendor Management function, including management of the multiple vendors the IT function engages on an ongoing basis. Manages the detailed evaluation of needs based on both the overall IT strategy and on the needs of specific areas of the business to determine the most effective approach to qualifying, evaluating and managing vendors and their related service contracts. Maintains active relationships with peer levels in key IT vendors to the organization, including outsource suppliers. Works closely with other organizational functions including the Finance, Budget, Procurement and Legal functions in project managing detailed vendor contracts. Manages the evaluation of assigned vendors from a technical, financial, and service level perspective. May negotiate aspects of IT vendor contracts depending on the issues and scope of the work and subject to legal review. Manages the tracking and monitoring of vendor performance from a cost and service delivery perspective to ensure that they are in compliance with the detailed terms of the contract. May intervene in the event of disputes and attempt to resolve issues in advance of more serious remedies being applied. Typically requires a degree in Computer Science or an Administrative discipline such as accounting or finance and progressive IT procurement and vendor negotiation experience.
